Dog test
by nirik on Mar.13, 2005, under dogs
Of course something important to test is how images and so forth will look.
Most of the pictures I end up taking these days are dog pictures, so here is one from this weekend:
Merlin often runs around like a maniac in the back yard. He has a great time playing catch with tennis balls, old stuffed animals or anything handy.
Note that he doesn’t have me thrown them for him but once (the first time), after that he can play catch just fine by himself.

Guess I posted that last one as admin instead of as me.
Here’s a real account.

Well, playing around with wordpress here. It’s not bad. Pretty easy to setup and pretty flexable.
It’s got a few bad points though: It uses MySQL and PHP.
PHP is nasty, but I can live with it, but MySQL is super nasty. I HATE it’s permissions model, dislike how it fails to handle crashes gracefully… in short, I just don’t like it. We will see if I can stand to run a mysqld on my main box.

Today was indeed busy. The Parade in Fort Collins was fun. Got to see a number of people I hadn’t seen
in a while. We had a new record for dogs and people I think this year. In the 40′s for both. We walked
next to the truck pulling a trailer with people and dogs on it. Merlin thought it would be cool to jump
on the trailer and not have to walk, but he couldn’t figure out that the trailer was moving while he was
moving and couldn’t make it up into there.
Then, I had a very nice meeting about the web site. Lots of good ideas and setup. The mailing lists
I setup for the site should go live now and that will be nice.
The CGA banquet was not bad. Again, I got
to see some folks I havent seen in ages. Some very very sad news of Dixie the wonder hound passing
away a few weeks ago. It was nice to see folks though. Still not sure whats going to be done with the faire
this year, but we will most likely be there.

Tomorrow is going to be a busy day. First up is the St Patricks day parade in Fort Collins.
All you gentle readers in Ft Fun should head down and watch me and the dogs in the parade.
After the parade I am meeting with some folks from the greyhound group to talk about
the web site., and go over some ideas to make things better
for everyone. I have some nice ideas that might help them, we will see what they want to do.
Then, it’s back home for a bit and off to the banquet for the
other greyhound group that I do things for.
These are the guys that have the booth down at the
Ren Faire. Will be nice to talk to some
folks there I haven’t seen since last year at the faire.

Last night we had a 10th anneversery meeting for the
Boulder Linux Users Group.
It’s hard to beleive that it’s been around for 10 years! We had some nice cake (with penguins on it),
and everyone talked about how far Linux has come in the last 10 years and how they first got
interested in Linux. It took on the flavor of an AA meeting at times, but it was still very fun.
Here’s to 10 more years!

Firewall woes today. For the last few days my firewall has been unhappy. The drive is headed
into a deep dark well from witch nothing (especially data) can escape. It’s pretty amazing to me that
even with the drive issues, Linux kept plugging along. Even when I couldn’t login to the machine and it
was spewing errors a dozen a second to the screen, all the rest of my machines were happy behind
it accepting their little network packets happily. Finally it managed to totally die eariler today,
at which time I installed Fedora Core 3 onto an old 10GB drive, setup the config, swapped the new drive into
the old machine, and was back up in about 20minutes. Try that with a windows install!

Another pretty productive day. I managed to spend most of it geeking out and putting
together xfce packages for the Fedora Extras project.
There is still a lot of cleanup to be done on them, but they should be good for a first
looksee by the other people in the project.
Got out of the house for a quick bike ride again. About 6 miles in 30min. There was however
an anoying headwind both directions. How does it manage to do that? At least it resulted
in a good workout. I just have to say thank you to whoever invented the gear. Without
gears I would have been in deep trouble to keep going.

Already 5 days into March and I haven’t updated this month. As you might expect not too
much going on really. The GURPs game is going along nicely. The players have pretty much
figured out whats going on, and just need to stop the villian from finishing his evil plans.
hackingsociety is as enjoyable as always.
Today I was quite productive: Ran the meet and greet at the petsmart from 11-2 and talked
to a ton of people. Went for a 30min bike ride. Went grocery shopping and to the liquor store.
Walked the dogs. Cleaned up the kitchen. Vacuumed the house. Did laundry. What an exciting
life I lead.
