new toy

Well, I went and found a not too bad deal on a nice canon powershot sd500 a few days ago. I was really remembering liking the canon camera controls. The casio I have used for the last year or so is fine, but it’s really hard to use with one hand (handy if you are holding 3 dogs leashes in the other). Also, I never got around to selling my old s100, so I figured I could use the batteries and chargers I had left from that.

The new camera came today and I was right in remembering that I like the controls. It will take a bit of (re) getting used to, but I am finding I am remembering it pretty quickly. Turns out the old batteries from the s100 and all the other powershot cameras are slightly diffrent from this model, so so much for the idea of re-using those. ;( I did have some problems getting pictures transfered over from the camera to my laptop via the USB cable. This camera doesn’t show up as a storage device, you have to use something like gphoto2 to talk with it. gphoto2 has 2 drivers for this camera, a PTP and a (normal) mode. normal is the default and it doesn’t work at all. It sees the camera and then refuses to talk with it. If I force the PTP driver (which was not easy to figure out how to do), it works great.

My gate is falling apart. It looks like the wind did a good number on it while I was out of town:

You can see here how well it matches up on the lock:

I hope I will have many good pictures with the new camera. :)

it's a holiday!

Today was a pretty fun lazy day… L came down from Fort Collins and we wandered around looking for a good hole in the wall mexican food place. We ended up at a place in louisville. It wasn’t bad. Then we went off to see The Constant Gardener. It was pretty good, but the camera work gave me a headache. It was very jittery and moving around and kinda cool at first, but after a while it just got annoying.

Yesterday I went up to planet bluegrass for my friends B and W’s wedding. It was one of the best weddings I have been too. Nice group of people, nice officiant. The setting was wonderfull. Very good music. Everything was pretty perfect.

Well, I didn’t manage to take any pictures at all yesterday. At least I did 18 days of taking at least some pictures every day. ;)

Here’s one of kurt from friday after I got back. My lawn was about 18″ high in the background:

openid

Playing around with OpenID. I have installed the very alpha wordpress support for OpenID from here.

I guess if anyone reading via livejournal or the like could try posting a comment that would tell me if it’s working. :)

tardy trip report

by on Sep.02, 2005, under Uncategorized

Well, I made it back to Colorado last night. I would have been home about 2 hours earlier except for T-rex hell in Denver. They had I25 closed northbound, which was fine. They had a detour (which was very long and poorly marked). They were constructing on the detour, making it go down to one lane in some places. Not smart. They should die in a fire.

Other than that it was a pretty uneventful trip.

There is this wacky “saftey corridor” between lordsberg and deming in New Mexico. Not sure what it means, but speeding fines are doubled there:

One of the nicer rest areas in NM that we always stop at:

Just north of Santa Fe there was this big dark thunderstorm ahead:

Unfortunately blurry, but at one point there was enough hail on the ground to look like a coating of snow:
