back alive
by nirik on Oct.31, 2005, under Uncategorized
Made it home from nukestock last night. I have been trying to catch up on email and work and stuff around the house, but I should be able to do a nice write up in the next few days.
It was a fun (if all too short time). There were people I got in good visits with, and others I barely managed to talk to. Typical of the event, but still a nice time overall.
I should have pictures up soon as well.
heading off again…

This time I am heading out for a fun trip. Down to New Mexico for the annual nukestock halloween party.
It should be a fun time. Thursday night is a beer tasting (which I am bringing a bunch of beer to), friday is the first night of party, saturday is the scavenger hunt/geocache and then the main party. Sunday is heading back up to Colorado.
I will try and take pics and post updates from there. Have a good weekend everyone.
halloween and stupid truck

Nice quiet weekend, which was welcome after the busy week. I managed to get caught up on laundry and cleaning and made a very good dent in cleaning out my computer room closet. I threw out a ton of junk, and made a pile of “to give away” stuff. I’m probibly about 50% done cleaning that up.
People around here are getting ready for halloween:
I didn’t know mukor was black:
What possesses people to make low riders out of duley’s:
Their choice I guess, but I think it looks pretty silly.
EDITED: fixed broken links in pictures.
more fall

Today was a nice grey, rainy fall day.
Here’s a few pics from the back yard. The trees are really loosing their leaves in droves now.
This tree was home to a ton of black birds (grackles?) They were being very loud:
These red/orange trees are really pretty:
tannahill weavers

Just got back from the tannahill weavers show down at swallow hill.. I got broncoed again on the drive down, the stupid game was letting out and there was a wreck right around the stadium area, but despite that I made it to the show in time.
It was an excellent show and as always a nice venue. They played a pretty nice long set and then had an intermission and then another set. They had some nice interaction with the audience, telling stories and jokes. You could tell the piper was struggling with the lack of air here, but he did very well despite that.
If they are going to be anywhere near you, I reccomend you see them!
bbq, hatefull broncos, and mirrormask
by nirik on Oct.16, 2005, under movie reviews, Uncategorized
The BBQ last night went pretty well. Had a good turnout and some good conversation. I made some roasted elephant garlic to spreading on crackers, and it was quite yummy. I also broke out some many year old mead that had been aging in the basement that was quite yummy. I forgot to take any pictures of the festivities. Oh well.
Today I was meeting tkil and delirumdreams for the 1:45 showing of mirrormask. I didn’t get to the theatre until about 2pm. The stupid worthless broncos were having a game and I25 was a total parking lot. Since I don’t usually go down I25 on sunday afternoons, it wasn’t something I looked up beforehand. Yet another reason to loathe the broncos.
Mirrormask was pretty good. I need to see it again so I can see the first 5minutes, but I still enjoyed it. As others mentioned the visuals were very very well done. The story wasn’t great, but it was ok as a framework to hang the visuals on. I can see owning a copy of it so I could watch it a number of times and catch lots of things I missed just because the visuals are so rich. So, not a great movie, but a good one.
bbq next saturday… be there!

There are some folks coming in from out of town for a visit and it also seems like a good time for it, so I am having a BBQ here at my house next saturday starting at 6pm. Anyone interested and reading is welcome… drop me an email for directions if you need them.
back again

Well, back from yet another whirlwind trip down to lovely Tucson, AZ.
The family was getting together to divide up things from my dad’s estate. Not a very happy occassion, but still nice to see everyone. It’s getting to where I know the drive pretty darn well at this point, so I can autopilot along. Went down friday and have a quick stop in Albquerque to drop off some computers for tkil at
deliriumdreams place. Stopped in Las Cruces friday night. Saturday was off to Tucson and was spent making lists and talking about stuff in my dad’s house. Sunday was more list making. We did manage to have an outing to Madera Canyon, which is a really nice place. Monday we ran some errands around town and then everyone headed home. I decided to just push through and go all the way home monday after leaving Tucson around 2pm. That put me into denver around 3am tuesday morning. Really the only bad things on the drive back was the heavy fog between colorado springs and denver, and the Arby’s I ate at because it was handy. I should know better.
fall and redecorating
by nirik on Oct.05, 2005, under Uncategorized
Fall is here now. I hope it sticks around for a while and we don’t just go directly to winter.
I tried to take a movie of Merlin running around the yard like a maniac today. Not sure how well it turned out due to the lighting, but it’s amusing if nothing else.
Finally, I have made good progress on my rearranging things. I cleaned up the basement a lot, moved the big computer desk down to the basement, moved bookshelves, moved computers over to a new shelf and cleaned up the library room. I had 7 (!) computer cases in there that were not needing to be plugged in/not working. Need to give some of those away or otherwise get them out of my hair. The two computers I am using there are all nicely cabled and setup now. I should be able to put a nice comfy chair up there and be able to have a window to look out down on the world from.
serenity… go see it
by nirik on Oct.02, 2005, under Uncategorized
Just a small PSA: everyone should go see Serenity. Despite the fact that some of the tv episodes of firefly were better, this is a pretty enjoyable movie. If enough people see it, we might get more good sci-fi. So, go see it.
