Twyla update

dogs Comments Off

Took Twyla up to CSU for her 3rd chemo treatment today.
While we were in the waiting area dropping her off, we saw the Surgeon who did her amputation. He came over and gave her some petting and she was really happy to see him. The chemo went well, her blood values were fine. When I went to pick her up one of the Oncology docs came out with her. She said she wished she could take Twyla home with her she liked her so much. :)
So, next treatment in 3 weeks. 1/2 way done with the treatments (it’s a course of 6). The doc said they can do a chest x-ray next time, but I’m not sure it would be usefull. We will see.

gloom

games Comments Off

Our regular Wednsday night GURPs game was off this week due to one of our players being out of country. ;)
So, the rest of us gathered anyhow and played card games. My friend J had this cool game called
“Gloom”.

It has these translucent cards. You place new cards on top of old ones and the ones below show thru as modifiers.
Pretty cool concept. The idea of the game is that you are this weird family of misfits and freaks. When something bad happens it’s gloomy, and when you are gloomy you can die. When all the members of one of the families dies, the game is out. Whoever has the most gloom wins. :)

I see that Warehouse23 has copies that have had the boxes crunched, but the cards are ok. Perhaps I will pick up a copy.

snow day

dogs, photos Comments Off

There was a snowstorm that came through last night and today. They were saying at one point that we were going to get a ton of snow. Of course, they didn’t get it right, and we only got around 4-5″ here at least.

The pups had some fun running around in it:

Time to launch into the snow for Merlin:

As befitting his more reserved nature, kurt just walks out into the snow:

Friday was St Patricks day (or as someone I know has called it: “National Bar Overcrowding day”), so of course I got invited by my friend A to go out to a bar and see a band play. :)

The bar was the D-Note down in arvada. Really nice place. I will have to see about getting down there more often. It’s about 30min or so drive from here, but it had nice atmosphere, and it looked like good pizza. They also had this set of lamps that were very very cool: They were like a dragons egg that had opened up and the light was inside. Sort of leathery and very neat. They also had black and tans on special ($4). They apparently have a celtic night every thursday. Thursdays are bad, but something to keep in mind for down the road.

The band was Angus Mohr. They were a hoot! Picture this: 4 guys in the band. 3 of them were older (50’s?) guys wearing kilts and looking pretty normal. The 4th guy was a young, skinny, goth. He had a leather kilt (in black) and was wearing black and red with long black hair and pale face. The three older guys played drums, bass and vocals, and gitar. The 4th guy played: bagpipes, pennywhistle, recorder, sax, hammod organ, synth, gitar, and did vocals. A typical segment of the first set had them playing: A fast reel with lots of pipes and people dancing, then wish you were here (Pink Floyd), All Along the Watch Tower, Broadsword (Jethro Tull), another reel/irish instermental thing, Ring of fire (Johnny Cash). They were quite fun. They played a fair bit of Dylan too (tangled up in blue).
I’d see them again, they were fun.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that Angus Mohr also made heavy use of a fog machine. It was pretty funny. Also, come to mention fog, the d-note was a non smoking bar. The only fog was from the fog machine. :)

Twyla went in monday to my vet down here for a blood test, and it came out great, so we went up tuesday for her second chemo treatment.
This one has hit her harder than the other one, she’s lost some appatite and she yaked up some bile the day after. Otherwise shes very
happy and getting around fine.

Right after we got back from the treatment:

Here’s a shot that kinda shows off her spots:

Got a fair bit of unpacking done this weekend. Got all the boxes of kitchen stuff unpacked and (mostly) put away.
Still have to figure out where I can put a few things, but overall it doesn’t look too bad.
Unpacked a few boxes of books, only about 10 more to go. :)

On saturday I went down to a meet and greet. It was fun. Got to meet the new pup of a friend of mine.
She’s sure a cute little girl. Kept trying to give me kisses (not that I minded).

Today I unpacked the drives I got last week and attempted to set them up in my mp3/dvd box.
All kinds of minor annoyances, but I managed to get it all working. 1.6T of space. Will be nice.
I need to still copy the data off my old drives. Not sure if I will break my raid and pull one drive out and put each old drive in long enough to copy, or
get an external enclosure and use that, or put them in my test machine and just copy over the net.
I do need to do that soon, so I have my music and movies and backups all back.

fridge fun

Uncategorized Comments Off

Well, got my new fridge installed today. Fit like a charm.
Only annoyance was all the little stickers that they had on all the glass parts.
NONE of them came off easily. They mostly left anoying little slime from the sticky.

The ice maker is starting to churn away, but it scares kurt everytime the ice drops into the bin. ;)

Will need to finish unpacking boxes sometime this weekend.

Well, the movers showed up around 9am this morning. They were very nice guys. They had no problem moving the old fridge, washer, dryer out to the garage.
They got everything unloaded and loaded into the house without too much incident.

One little problem however cropped up. The new fridge won’t fit. It needs about 1″ of width to fit in the right place in the kitchen. :(
Very anoying.

Looks like my options are:

1. just buy another fridge and have them haul this very nice one away.

2. have someone rip out some of the counter/cabinet so that there is 1″ more room.

3. Just rip apart the kitchen and use this as an excuse to replace the counters (which I hate) and the cabinets (which are just sorta there).

The jury is still out on which of these will happen. For now the fridge is off to the side of the kitchen in the way and being anoying.

Things have been nice and busy so I have been a slacker about updating.
I need to get in the habbit of taking a few pictures every day. When I do that I find I get better at taking them in general…

Looks like the movers with my dad’s stuff are planning on being here between 8 and 10am tomorrow. Hopefully I will have places to put all the stuff.
I need to get the garage setup to hold the old fridge/washer/dryer for a few days (wed some folks I donated them to are coming by to pick them up).
Looking forward to having a nice fridge that has a ice maker. :)

In geek news, I have been running low on disk space on my mp3/dvd machine due to ripping lots of dvd’s to disk (it’s a great deal easier to watch things when you don’t have to deal with stupid disks), so I decided to build up a big RAID setup. It just so happens that Best Buy has 400GB drives on sale right now, so I ordered 5 of them. Going to stick them all in a RAID-5 setup (which should give me 1.6TB). That should keep me in disk space for a while. I am currently using about .6TB, so it should be quite a bit more room.

Here’s some kitty pictures I took last night and this morning:
