weekend recap

Whew. What a wet and busy weekend.
Friday morning I frantically packed things up and tried not to forget anything for camping/faire. Got down to the campground around noon, just in time to setup lunch and my tent and x-pen. The wireless worked great at the campground, but the area we were in was very glare-y, and it was almost impossible to read my laptop screen in the afternoon. Around 3pm the clouds rolled in and it started to rain. Except for some small breaks, it never let up. We spent friday night in T’s nice big tent space chatting and telling stories and drinking. Kurt and Merlin were not happy to be hanging out in my tent… especially with all the thunder and rain. Merlin managed to make a hole in my door.
The rain continued thru the night. There was quite a bit of water flowing under my tent, but we managed to stay dry on top of dog beds and foam pads.
In the morning the condensation or perhaps water from around some seams started dripping on me, which wasn’t much fun. Got up nice and early and took a hot shower and got into my kilt. The shower was nice, but man are the showers small. I kept hitting the temp lever with my elbow and getting a shocking cold burst. Saturday at faire was fun, but also rainy. My house guests D and J and their kids V and D came out to faire and since it was so slow and we had a lot of people on hand, we got to wander the faire and chat. There were more people there than I would have thought, but still pretty light crowds. D and J decided to stay around Saturday night and leave sunday, so I went back and packed up my tent and headed back home Saturday night. We went out for a nice dinner and had beers and got some good conversation in.
Sunday started far too early. I promised T that I would head down and help them break down camp, so I was up at 6am and heading out the door by 7.
Breaking down the camp was taking a while. We had a number of folks and tents. I helped out as much as I could, until around 9:20 or so I went up to faire to open the booth for the day. The parking lot was a fun mud bog. I had to put my urban into 4wd mode to get into the spot they wanted me to.
Got the booth opened and greeted our AM folks. Even less people out on sunday. It seemed colder and I think the ground got saturated, so it was all running off. Folks from camp made it in later in the morning. They had had a rough time breaking down the rest of camp in the rain. In the afternoon, our AM folk headed home and just a few of us were left at the booth. Then, D called from castle rock. They were heading south and their jeep totally died on I25. They got it towed to the dealer (which isn’t open on sunday) and needed a lift. Since I was the last one there with dogs, we decided to close the booth up and call it a day. There wasn’t too many people around, and staying open wouldn’t have helped out much. Got D and J picked up and taken home. They took me out for Sushi and PiratesII, which was very nice.
Now, to recover from my weekend.
Pictures up later.

Weekend recap

Another weekend at faire.
Saturday started out very poorly. Some moron in my neighborhood decided they needed to test out their fireworks at around 8am as we were trying to get ready to go. This of course freaked out kurt and caused him to not want to go out before we left. About half way down to the faire, kurt decided he couldn’t hold in the explosive D that he was feeling, and let it out in the car. Fragrant and messy. I managed to clean up a fair bit of it once we parked at the faire, but it was very un-fun. Saturday was also kurt’s birthday (he’s 9). Luckily the rest of the day went much nicer for everyone.
Sunday was less eventfull and more easy going. It rained quite a bit Sunday afternoon, but that did keep things cool. I managed to listen to almost a full set from Celtic Legacy, and part of one from Wirlyjig. Merlin and I walked in the parade too.
Next weekend (on friday at least) I’m going to be camping down at the campground near faire. That should be fun.
Pretty cool that they have wireless there, so I should be able to work friday from down there.
Pictures up later.

Well, I seem to have taken 91 pictures this weekend. Most of them of Twyla (Imagine that!)
I’m going to go through them and do a proper photo post (or perhaps 2) later, but if anyone wants to look at all 91 of the pictures, you can go to:

Or

Off to get ready for the role playing groups arrival and try and get Twyla to eat a bit more…
faire over
by nirik on Aug.01, 2005, under dogs, faire
Well, this last weekend was the last weekend of faire (at least in larkspur) this year. It was both nice to have it end (I get weekends back, hurray!) and sad (It’s a lot of fun out there usually). Saturday was pretty opressively hot, sunday was much nicer with a bit of rain to settle the dust. Managed to get out of the booth long enough to see all of a Scottish Mayhem show and pick up Ben Holmes rock band cd. There was some Faire drama on saturday, but hopefully it will all work out ok.
Ebony is getting along much better with my dogs, but she once again had issues with some other dogs on sunday. Saturday there wasn’t much problem, but sunday she was very grouchy. I suspect it’s just too much going on and she gets tired and cranky and doesn’t know how to relax and leave the other dogs alone. She’s a handfull.
There is a faire up in Fort Collins next weekend, but not sure if I will be up to going, time will tell. If not, the next faire will be TRF in the fall.
One weekend of Faire left
by nirik on Jul.25, 2005, under dogs, faire
Well, another weekend gone by and only one weekend of faire left this year.
Friday I picked up a new foster dog. She’s just shy of one year old (Her birthday is next sunday,..the last day of faire). She is totally full of energy (as you might imagine at her age) and very cute. Unfortunately, she doesn’t seem to get along with the other greyhounds very well. Not sure if it’s an alpha/dominance issue, or she’s just stressed out and can’t handle it. Otherwise she’s very nice and loves people all the time.
Ebony:

Saturday was hot hot hot out at the faire. There were some clouds that rolled in and it did end up raining, but not until very late in the day. In the morning, Ebony the foster dog was ok, but in the afternoon she started having issues with espcially the girl dogs. Luckily I brought a muzzle for the car ride home and there were only minor snaps.
Sunday was much nicer. Clouds rolled in pretty early and kept up a pretty good cover over things.
On Saturday I did manage to finally see a 5:30 Iris and Rose show. A very amusing time. I wish I could make it down there every day.
