I've been told that everyone gets a lifetime,
but even of that there are no quarantees.
Billy Sheets lies in his grave now 15 years gone,
too early crashed flattened smashed knocked out in the early action.
I've never understood how life just shifts and swirls -
What's so big and bright one day is so small and dim the next.
So many many things that I never would have dreamed would change
and now they've just drifted off, never to be seen again.
We are just words that fall from the mouth of the universe,
earth light love formed and so quickly dispersed.
We ask all the same questions, learn all the same lessons,
get the same first kiss and same moments of bliss.
Don't let my life read like someone's second hand diary,
everything spelled out and completely preconceived.
I'd rather jump right in than run for cover
Here's to the life livers and stormy lovers!
And I'm waiting for the wind to lift me up
lift me high into the liquid sky.
I'm waiting for the wind to lift me up
high high into the crystalline sky.
God I think I see you hiding in the trees
you're in the grit of the soil, you're in the better part of me.
But here I am the prodigal son, here I am the Jesus daughter,
lost, and drifting off, one more lamb to the slaughter.
So when I hear the clack and clatter of some beast's bones being scattered
lying about, bleached here in the warming sun, I think
So will my bones be soon enough,
so will my bones be soon enough.
In my younger days
when time still whispered she was on my side,
Love would rain down on us free
and up I would go, alive and purified.
And I'm waiting for the wind...
I get way too involved in the small scale of my life,
gotta jump back and see the bigger picture.
So I seek the fire in my soul and (the embrace of) a clear mind,
the feel of the wind and the rain it brings.
Perspective it is I hope for but never can seem to hold
It floods in with solitude and dreams and ebbs out thru leaky seams
Lord help me back to my thin and thready senses
Only in my insignificance can I truly find freedom!
And I'm waiting for the wind to lift me up
lift me high into the liquid sky.
I'm waiting for the wind to lift me up
high high into the crystalline sky.
(let me down down down now, set my feet on the ground)
Oh, love, rain down on me
soak up thru the roots to the flowering tree!
