Locke's empiricism and the "tabula rasa"
Tabula rasa is Latin for "blank slate." Locke uses this idea to argue that humans are born without any "innate ideas;" we are "blank slates" waiting for experience to "write" on us. This argument is part of Locke's empiricism; Locke emphasizes the importance of sensory experience much as Francis Bacon did.
